AOC Mocks Riley Gaines — and Proves Why Biology Still Matters

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) didn’t just take a jab at former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines this week — she managed to mock both biology and women’s sports in one post.

The online exchange began after Gaines, who famously tied for fifth place against transgender swimmer Lia Thomas in 2022, once again called attention to the unfairness of biological males competing in women’s sports. Gaines, a five-time SEC champion and 12-time All-American, has been one of the few athletes brave enough to speak openly about what many others are too afraid to say: biological differences don’t disappear with hormone therapy.

Her challenge to Ocasio-Cortez? A public debate on the issue.

AOC’s response? A dismissive “get a real job.”

Because apparently, defending women’s sports and scientific truth isn’t a “real job” — but posting insults on X is.

The congresswoman’s sarcasm wasn’t just tone-deaf; it was a slap in the face to generations of women who trained their entire lives for fair competition. Gaines’ point has always been simple: if women are forced to compete against biological men, the entire purpose of women’s divisions collapses. No amount of political posturing or social-media clout can rewrite basic anatomy.

While AOC’s followers applauded her snark, many others saw it for what it was — an attempt to silence legitimate debate with ridicule. Conservative figures, including Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), came to Gaines’ defense, praising her willingness to stand up to the political machine that keeps pretending biology is optional.

At the end of the day, it’s not just about swimming or medals — it’s about truth. Women shouldn’t have to apologize for wanting a level playing field, and they shouldn’t be mocked for defending it.

AOC’s comment may have earned her retweets, but Riley Gaines earned something far more lasting: respect.

WECU Media believes truth doesn’t bend to politics — no matter how many filters it’s run through on X.
