Breaking News - Shots Fired at The White House Correspondents' Dinner

Gunshots were fired inside/near the ballroom at the Washington Hilton during the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner (WHCD) on Saturday night, April 25. President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, VP JD Vance, and other top officials were quickly evacuated by Secret Service. Attendees ducked under tables; chaos ensued as doors were closed.

Key details:

  • A gunman opened fire; the suspect was neutralized/killed on the scene (reports confirm dead).

  • No injuries reported to Trump, Melania, Vance, or other principals.

  • The dinner program was interrupted but organizers said it would “resume shortly.” Some reports note attendees in shock afterward.

  • This occurred at the same hotel where Reagan was shot in 1981 (VIP entrance used for security).

Trump was attending the WHCD for the first time as president (he boycotted in his first term). Mentalist Oz Pearlman was the entertainer. The event had already drawn controversy over Trump's attendance amid his tensions with the press.

  • President safe: Trump and VIPs evacuated after shots fired at WHCD; the gunman killed on scene.

  • No injuries to protectees confirmed.

  • Ongoing: Situation developing; full investigation underway.

Pull C-SPAN footage or live clips from X/YouTube for visuals (people ducking, evacuation). Check AP, WaPo, Independent, or Fox for official statements. Update as more comes in—Secret Service/FBI likely briefing soon. Stay safe on air!
