Today, the third Monday of January is commemorating the achievements of Martin Luther King jr, a prolific speaker, and civil rights advocate of the 20th century. King, is best known for his advocating of a non-violent means to end racial segregation that plagued the country in the 1950s and 60s. King was also instrumental in the Civil Rights act of 1964 which outlawed discrimination in employment, facilities, and public accommodations.
After his assassination at the young age of 39 in Memphis Tennessee, the baptist minister is celebrated for the inspirational messages he passed to his followers. Amongst the most memorable was his speech "I have a dream."
Amongst his most iconic quotes, we feel this one is the most relevant for today's societal environment. "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."
