PROTECT LAKE MAUREPAS — CCS IS NOT SAFE HERE

We lived through August 2016. 30+ inches of rain. The Comite River hit 34 feet and wiped out entire neighborhoods in EBR, Central, and Livingston. Schools closed for good. Families still haven’t recovered.
The Comite River Diversion Canal was promised after the 1983 flood. It still wasn’t finished in 2016.
Now they want us to trust them with CO2 injection under Lake Maurepas?
Here’s what they’re NOT telling you:
1. Our water is already at riskLouisiana has 4,600+ orphaned oil & gas wells. Many aren’t even mapped. The EPA says old wells are the #1 way CO2 leaks. One bad wellbore = CO2 in our aquifer or the lake.
2. Manatees call Lake Maurepas homeLDWF confirms West Indian manatees use the lake + rivers feeding it. They need clean water and grass beds. CCS brine discharge and leaks threaten that.
3. We already flood every single stormCars go under. Power lines short out. People in EBR lost $14K-$24K replacing AC units Entergy fried. If they can’t manage rainwater, why should we trust them with pressurized CO2?
4. Follow the moneyAir Products gets BILLIONS in federal 45Q tax credits for this. Meanwhile, we pay out of pocket for flood damage. In 2024, Louisiana finally gave parishes the right to OPT OUT of CCS. Livingston + Tangipahoa said NO.
EBR & Ascension need to say NO too.
WHAT YOU CAN DO RIGHT NOW:
Comment on the DNR permit: LA DNR Office of Conservation - Tell them 2016 survivors don’t consent.
Show up: Parish council meetings. Bring your 2016 photos. Bring pics of your street flooding LAST WEEK.
Share this post: Tag your Metro Council members. Tag Letlow’s office. They log every call.
We survived 2016 because we helped each other. We won’t survive being a carbon dumping ground for companies that can’t keep the lights on.
Lake Maurepas is NOT for sale. No CCS. No eminent domain. No more broken promises.
