The Invisible Coup: How Immigration Became a Weapon Against America

Investigative journalist and bestselling author Peter Schweizer joins Gary Binford to expose the hidden threat that has been hiding in plain sight for decades — and why it may be the most urgent national security story of our time.

What if the immigration debate Americans have been having for decades has focused entirely on the wrong question? That is the explosive premise at the heart of Peter Schweizer's newest book, The Invisible Coup: How American Elites and Foreign Powers Use Immigration as a Weapon — and it is a premise that Schweizer, one of the most consequential investigative journalists in America today, backs up with hard evidence, documented statements, and financial trails that are impossible to dismiss.

On this episode of United Patriots Uprising, host Gary Binford sat down with Schweizer for a wide-ranging conversation that covered birthright citizenship, the astonishing reach of Mexican consulates across the United States, the surveillance grip China maintains on its students abroad, and what Donald Trump's early foreign policy moves mean for America's rivals. What emerged was one of the most information-dense and revealing conversations the show has ever produced.

Immigration-A Threat Hidden in Plain Sight

Schweizer opened with a striking reframe: most immigration debates revolve around what to do with people once they are already here. His book, he argues, demands that Americans ask a more fundamental question — who is sending them, and why?

"Foreign powers and certain domestic elites see immigration as a means by which they can exert political control inside the United States." — Peter Schweizer

To illustrate how concrete this threat is, Schweizer pointed to a startling data point that Binford had introduced at the top of the show. China — a nation of 1.4 billion people with enormous global reach — maintains five consulates in the United States. Great Britain has eight. Mexico has more than 50, including four in Arizona alone — nearly as many in a single state as the United Kingdom has across the entire country.

Numbers display consulates: China's U.S. (5), Great Britain's U.S. (8), Mexico's U.S. (53), Mexico's in Arizona (4). Dark background, gold text.

Those diplomats, Schweizer made clear, are not simply stamping passports. In May 2024, a meeting at the Mexican consulate in Oklahoma City brought together diplomatic officials from Los Angeles to Orlando to strategize with Democratic Party activists. According to a transcript of the meeting, the discussion centered on how to replicate the political flips they claimed credit for in California and Arizona — and how to turn more states from red to blue. "This is not the proper role of a diplomat under any circumstances," Schweizer told Binford flatly.

Birth Tourism and the Citizenship Loophole

Among the most alarming revelations Schweizer shared is what China has built around America's birthright citizenship laws. China has constructed an industry of more than a thousand companies whose sole purpose is to fly pregnant Chinese women — wives and girlfriends of military officers, intelligence officials, and Communist Party elites — to the United States to give birth. After a week, the mother and newborn return to China, where the child is raised entirely under the Chinese state.

But that child holds a U.S. passport. And when they turn 18, they are entitled to vote in American elections.

"The 2016 election was settled by 72,000 votes. We are looking at more than one million so-called U.S. citizens raised entirely in China."

Schweizer cited multiple Chinese sources estimating that roughly 100,000 Chinese babies have been born on American soil or in U.S. territories like Saipan every year for the past 13 years — a cumulative total exceeding one million individuals who hold American citizenship but were raised, educated, and shaped entirely by the Chinese Communist Party. The Supreme Court is expected to take up birthright citizenship this spring, and Schweizer said the outcome may hinge on a handful of justices, particularly Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Barrett.

Chinese Students and the Leverage of Family

Binford pressed Schweizer on a question many Americans quietly wonder about: should Chinese students studying at U.S. universities be viewed with suspicion? Schweizer gave a measured but sobering answer. The issue, he explained, is not necessarily ideology — it is structural coercion. Every Chinese student in America is required to use WeChat, an app monitored in real time by the Chinese government. More importantly, their families remain in China, giving Beijing direct leverage.

"Even if a Chinese student says, 'I don't want to spy for China,' the Chinese government can say, 'We can make life really difficult for your family.' They have leverage over these students.— Peter Schweizer

A 2017 Chinese national security law, Schweizer noted, legally requires Chinese citizens to cooperate with intelligence services when asked. The notion that these students are simply like any other international student — free from coercion or ideological vetting — is, in his words, "naive and wrong."

Democrats, Voter Mills, and 20 Years of Advantage

The book's fourth chapter, titled "Voter Mills," draws on an internal White House email from the Biden era in which a senior aide described the administration's deliberate effort to loosen citizenship requirements, eliminate criminal background checks, and fast-track as many immigrants to citizenship as possible — because roughly 85% of new immigrants vote Democrat. Schweizer noted that the three largest years for naturalizing new U.S. citizens in modern history — 1996, 2012, and 2024 — were all reelection years for Democratic presidents.

"They see this as a vote winner," Schweizer said. "The problem is that there are foreign powers who have even more sinister plans against us — to remake us entirely."

Trump's Early Moves and a Weakened China

The conversation took a forward-looking turn when Binford raised comments Schweizer had made on Jesse Watters' primetime program about the geopolitical fallout from U.S. military operations against Iran. Schweizer connected those actions directly to China's global standing.

In the span of 58 days, he noted, the Trump administration had captured Venezuelan President Maduro — a key Chinese ally and the center of Beijing's influence operations in Latin America — and then launched military operations against Iran, another critical Chinese partner in the Middle East. Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE held major infrastructure contracts in both countries; those contracts are now gone, costing tens of billions in revenue and hampering China's ambitions in the global AI race.

The military dimension was equally significant. China had sold Iran its most advanced air defense systems. American aircraft destroyed them without losing a single plane. "Who wants the plane that got its ass kicked?" Schweizer said with characteristic bluntness, drawing a parallel to 1982, when Israeli pilots flying American F-15s shot down 82 Syrian MiGs without a single loss — a moment that devastated Soviet arms exports for years afterward.

Why the Book Matters Now

Schweizer told Binford that the week before The Invisible Coup was released, he spent 55 minutes at the White House briefing President Trump, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the book's findings. He has also met with a half-dozen senators and senior House members, and is scheduled to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee. He is cautiously optimistic that legislation is coming.

The Invisible Coup debuted at number one on the New York Times bestseller list and held that position for three consecutive weeks. For those who want to understand not just the symptoms of America's immigration crisis but its architecture — who built it, who funds it, and who benefits — Schweizer says the book provides exactly that: not conspiracy theory, but documented evidence, in the words of the perpetrators themselves. "It's not a conspiracy theory to simply quote people who tell you what their motivation is and describe the steps they're taking." — Peter Schweizer

Gary Binford closed the episode with a rallying call that has defined five years of United Patriots Uprising: "Don't put this information under your bed. Put it on your roof. People need to know what's going on." It is hard to argue with that after an hour with Peter Schweizer.
