South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, a longtime Republican lawmaker and close ally of President Donald Trump, has died at age 71 following a brief and sudden illness, his office confirmed Saturday night. Graham, who served in the Senate since 2003 after eight years in the U.S. House, was a prominent voice on national security and foreign policy. He had recently returned from Kyiv, where he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Never married and with no children, he is survived by his sister Darline and her family. A special election process will now fill his seat ahead of November.
