From Reuters, "Iran is technically capable of making a nuclear bomb but has not decided whether to build one, a senior adviser to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei told Qatar's al Jazeera TV on Sunday."
This comes on the heels of President Biden's 4-day trip to Israel and Saudi Arabia. Kamal Kharrazi adviser to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei told the press, "In a few days we were able to enrich uranium up to 60% and we can easily produce 90% enriched uranium,” Kharrzi stressed, " Iran has the technical means to produce a nuclear bomb but has not decided to build one."
According to the Wall Street Journal, "Iran secured access to secret United Nations atomic agency reports almost two decades ago and circulated the documents among top officials who prepared cover stories and falsified a record to conceal suspected past work on nuclear weapons."
Iran is demanding to receive guarantees that the US would not leave the JCPOA and also lift all sanctions impacting its economy. This demand however would be construed as a treaty, and getting every member of the house or senate to agree is not a likely scenario.
Kharrazi further went on to say, " direct talks with Washington were difficult “due to the thick wall of mistrust and American policies” while insisting that Tehran would never negotiate over its missile program and regional policy, as demanded by the US and its allies in the Middle East. They will not capitulate.
Most stunningly is the comment Kharrazi said regarding Israel, implying they would use nuclear weapons against them. "Targeting our security from neighboring countries will be dealt with a response from us to these countries and a direct response to Israel. We have held extensive drills targeting Israel's depth in case our sensitive facilities are targeted."
Senator Tom Cotton blasted the Biden administration for their conciliatory stance regarding a nuclear Iran and pointed out that while this administration may be complacent with a Nuclear Iran, Israel and its neighbors are not.
While Biden was in Saudi Arabia prostrating himself before the Crown Prince, whom in the past had referred to as a pariah, there has been no indication that OPEC will increase its oil production.
Analysis:
Due to Biden's war on domestic oil and natural gas, the cost to fuel a gas-powered engine has increased to record-setting levels. Despite him opening the strategic reserves, and a slight decrease in the cost of gasoline or diesel, this has done little to give Americans confidence in their finances. The cost of every item has increased due to these prices, and most importantly the cost to feed a family is out of control. Because it is more expensive to bring products to the market.
Biden told the American public that in no uncertain terms, the cost of gas was due wholly to the war between Russia and Ukraine. He later went on to blame oil and gas companies for not lowering their prices.
Then he blamed Republicans for the high cost to fuel their cars. "Republicans in Congress are doing everything they can to stop my plans to bring down costs on ordinary families. That's why my plan is not finished and why the results aren't finished either,"
Biden is essentially playing the blame game for his failure in domestic policy, but the more important issue is whether should Iran and Israel have an all-out war because the United States does very little to produce oil at this point. Americans will suffer immensely. The cost of gas is high right now, but because Biden is asking OPEC to increase their production, a war in the middle east will cripple the economy. w The real question should be: Will war in the middle east prompt Biden and his administration to increase the production of oil? Or will he continue to strangle Americans with his policies? a
